Fortunately, having Physical Therapy can help relieve the pain and prevent complications.

What is Sciatica

What is Sciatica?

Sciatica refers to the pain, numbness, burning or tingling sensation going down the back of the leg. It is caused by an injury or pressure to the Sciatic nerve. The Sciatic nerve begins at your lower back, then branches out at the base of your spine and extends down to your buttock and leg.

Sciatica is a symptom of a medical problem and is not a medical condition itself.

Causes of Sciatica

Common causes of Sciatica:

  • Herniated/ Slipped disc

  • Bone spurs on spine

  • Degenerative disc disease(breakdown of discs, which acts as cushion in between vertebrae)
